Coastal towns were some of the areas most in favour of leaving the EU in the 2016 referendum. According to the Executive Chairman of The National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations Barrie Deas, EU vessels were fishing four times more than UK vessels. Fishermen felt they needed to ‘take control back’ of their waters. With pulling out of the EU, Britain will be terminating historic rights enjoyed by France, Belgium, Germany, Ireland and Netherlands that predates the U.K’s own entry into the EU. This is historic for UK. Countries such as Denmark are looking on filing a legal case in the Hague to claim its historic rights to fishing in the British waters that according to them, dates back to the 1400s. This year it will be the last December Council of Ministers where UK will be a part of in deciding fishing quotas for 2018 before leaving the EU. The last of its kind.
